St. Ed’s Seeks Donation Supporters for Grand Piano

The Kawai grand piano in our church was built in 1987 and was donated in 1990 in honor of past Music Director Larry Gully. After having served our parish for many years at multiple Masses each week, this piano has developed multiple problems including most significantly a cracked sound board that is not easily or satisfactorily repairable. While this piano has served us well, it is really undersized for our space, but that has been mitigated through the use of a microphone. Most churches with a space the size of St. Ed’s fill the space with the sound of a piano coming from a 9′ grand piano. This is what can be found in parishes such as Basilica of St. Mary (Mpls), Mary Mother of the Church (Burnsville), Annunciation (Mpls), St. Patrick’s (Edina), Our Lady of Grace, (Edina), Our Lady of Peace (Mpls), and Sa- cred Heart (St. Paul) as well as in many large Protestant Churches in this area. We have a pressing need to replace this instrument with a piano that is appropriately sized for our church; however, this comes with a significant price tag. Our target funding goal for this project is under $75,000. If you can help us make this goal a reality, we would appreciate your donation towards this project. You can simply write your check to St. Edward’s and make sure to write “piano fund” on the check.

The existing piano, donated in Larry Gully’s honor, will not be lost, however. Trying to be good stewards of our resources, we would like to relocate that piano to the Social Hall and thus have an upgraded piano in that space. In addition, the piano currently in the Social Hall would be moved to the chapel, again providing an upgrade in that space.
