Everyone goes through difficult times. Having someone to care, to listen, to share God’s love with you can help.
Stephen Ministry is a confidential, one-to-one caring ministry through which a layperson provides caring support to someone who is experiencing an unexpected or on-going life challenge.
A Stephen Minister IS a:
Caring Christian who listens and offers encouragement and support
Committed person who receives training, continuing education, and supervision
Non-judgmental person with a deep personal commitment to provide confidential care
A Stephen Minister IS NOT a:
Counselor or therapist
Stephen Ministers provide comfort and support:
AFTER…the phone call you hoped you’d never get
AFTER…the divorce papers are served
AFTER…the funeral is over and everyone has left
AFTER…the doctor says, “I’m sorry, but there’s nothing more we can do.”
AFTER…the nursing home director welcomes you to your new home
AFTER…the last child honks, waves and drives away
AFTER…the gavel goes down and the hand cuffs go on and your loved one is led away
AFTER…the baby arrives, demanding more than you ever dreamed possible
AFTER…the pink slip
AFTER…your family and friends have heard your story one too many times

2016 Stephen Ministry Workshop
Want to learn to care for people who are grieving and reach out to others in a distinctively Christian way? On Saturday, April 30, St. Edward’s Church will host a Stephen Ministry Introductory Workshop from 9:00am to 1:00pm. The half-day workshop is designed both to enhance participants’ care giving skills and to help congregations explore ways to expand their caring ministry. Area congregations have received an invitation to participate in this workshop. Registration begins at 8:00am and refreshments will be served.
One reason we are so excited about helping other congregations learn about Stephen Ministry is that it is making a significant difference in the life of our own congregation. St. Edward’s has 26 laypeople who have gone through 50 hours of training in order to provide quality one-to-one Christian care to hurting people. If you think you might be interested in being a Stephen Minister, attending the workshop is a great way to learn more.
Members of St. Edward’s Church are invited to attend the workshop free of charge. However, it is still important to pre-register so that we will have plenty of materials on the day of the workshop. Please contact Dc. Jim DeShane at 952-835-7101 x220 or e-mail him at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to be added to our congregation’s list of participants. Don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity for personal growth and to learn more about Stephen Ministry.
