They are my anointed ones, and I call them My Christs, because I have given them the office of administering Me to you, and have placed them like fragrant flowers in the mystical body of holy Church. The angel himself has no such dignity, for I have given it to those men whom I have chosen for My ministers, and whom I have appointed as earthly angels in this life. In all souls I demand purity and charity, that they should love Me and their neighbor. . . . But far more do I demand purity in My ministers and love towards Me and towards their fellow-creatures, administering to them the Body and Blood of My only-begotten Son, with the fire of charity and a hunger for the salvation of souls, for the glory and honor of My name.
— St. Catherine of Siena: Dialogue,
Dear Fellow Parishioners,
This week we celebrate the life of our beloved former pastor, Fr. Michael Tegeder. We do indeed celebrate his “fire of charity” and “hunger for the salvation of souls.” Fr. Mike invited/challenged everyone, from popes and archbishops to average Catholics and people of all faiths to politicians and ordinary citizens, to fully embrace and live the Gospel message of faith, hope and love. His prophetic voice will be missed as we continue in our efforts to build a better Church and world.
Our condolences go out to the Tegeder family and friends in this difficult time. All are welcome to attend his funeral Mass this Wednesday at 7:00pm. The Church of St. Edward is honored to be able to host this celebration. May God bless us all as we strive to live life to the full.
