We welcome three new members to the Parish Council (PC). Please read below to learn a little about each one:
I am grateful for the opportunity to join the Parish Council this year and serve the people of St. Edward’s Church. I am an attorney with American Family Insurance Company, at least until my upcoming retirement. My wife, Lori, and I have been parishioners here for over twenty years. We have two children and seven grandchildren, and are fortunate to have all of them here in the Twin Cities. Lori and I are both lector/commentators and Eucharistic ministers at St. Edward’s Church. In addition, I am a member of the Worship Commission, and have previously been a member of the Parish Council as well as a Parish Trustee and a member of the former Tithing Committee. It is my hope that those experiences will be of help to me in fulfilling my duties on the council. While I know many of you already, I hope I can get to know more of you as well during the course of my PC term.
I was born and raised in Proctor MN (just SW of Duluth). I graduated high school in 1963 and was a nanny for a couple of years. Then I joined the USMC (United States Marine Corps), trained as a computer operator and was stationed mostly in NC and CA. After the military I had two sons—Robert in 1968 and Peter in 1973. I went to college, off and on, while working in private health and hospice care to homebound individuals. In 2000, I graduated from The College of St. Scholastica with a BS in Health Sciences and started working for United Health Care. When my sons moved down here for more lucrative employment opportunities, I followed…working as a care advocate for Optum Health, a division of United Health Care. I retired from work in July, 2015. In November of 2012, I met Austin Hummel…and felt especially blessed by God. It was a relationship that was meant to be and we were married in June of 2013. That is when I joined St. Edward’s Church. Prior to that, I went to St. Hubert’s in Chanhassen and St. Bonaventure in Bloomington, where I also served on the parish council. Aside from my interest in the Church and its life, I enjoy reading, my grandchildren and animals.
I’m excited to serve as the Pastoral Care Commission representative to the Parish Council. I was raised at St Edward’s Church and have chosen to raise my family here, as well. My wife, Mandi, and I have three daughters, Emilia, Elise, and Olivia, and are active in a variety of church activities, including the music and faith formation programs. I own a childcare business and am blessed to be able to provide a Christian-based curriculum for the children who attend. I am honored to serve St Edward’s Church on the Pastoral Care Commission and look forward to getting to know many of you in the coming months.
