This weekend (May 6/7) we are debuting at our parish a new arrangement of the 23rd Psalm. Paul Tate’s “The Lord is My Shepherd” is a beautiful setting of this beloved psalm that includes the liturgically correct verses. While you are probably familiar with Marty Haugen’s “Shepherd Me, O God” which is sung at many funerals, the words in the setting are not exactly liturgically correct for a responsorial psalm. On weekends, we will continue to sing that song, such as this weekend at Communion. We will also continue to use it as a responsorial psalm at funerals because many families find comfort in that arrangement. The new Tate setting will also be the responsorial psalm at the 50th Anniversary Mass, with brass instruments providing additional beauty to the setting.
