On January 12, the Church of St. Edward hosted the Loras College Jazz Band and Choir for an evening of music. Loras College is a Catholic liberal arts college in Dubuque, Iowa. The Jazz Band and Choir, just two of many musical groups at the college, were in the metro area touring schools and made St. Edward a stop on their tour.

Before the concert, the band and choir members enjoyed a meal of delicious Chinese food together in the social hall. The meal was hosted by Pete and Barb Smyth.

The concert began at 7 pm, with approximately 35 band and choir members performing a program of about 15 songs. The audience, made up of parishioners from St. Edward and surrounding parishes, as well as some Loras College alumnus, seemed to really enjoy the mix of jazz, blues, and pop.

During the concert, the Social Justice commission collected a free-will offering to benefit crisis pregnancy support centers. These centers provide practical, life-saving services to women facing the crisis of an unplanned pregnancy. They offer free pregnancy tests, counseling from trained professionals, medical referrals, information about government assistance, temporary shelter, and adoption information. The objective is to ensure that every woman has access to the resources she needs in order to continue her pregnancy and support her child, without sacrificing her own hopes and dreams. The donations, which netted $1,114, was split between Northside and Tandem Crisis Pregnancy centers.
