From Father Brian –
I want to let everyone know that a new pastor has been named for St. Edward’s. His name is Fr. Rick Banker and he is currently the pastor of St. Rita’s in Cottage Grove. Some of you may remember Fr. Rick from the time he was associate pastor here at St. Ed’s in the early 90’s. He’ll begin his ministry as pastor of St. Edward’s on July 1st.
He sent a note to our parish that I’ve included below:
Dear Parishioners of St. Edwards,
Some people say “You can’t go home again.” And there might be some truth to that. I have to say however, that when I came back last fall for the 50th Anniversary Celebration, it sure felt like “coming home!”
Much has changed since I spent the first five years of my priesthood (1988 – 1993) as your Associate Pastor, but a lot has stayed the same – including the St. Edward’s commitment to vibrant liturgy, the youth, social justice, hospitality and pastoral care.
I have many great memories of being at St. Ed’s and of all the people that affected my life and ministry. I also believe that the wisdom and skills I learned from Fr. Marty Shallbetter, the staff and the leadership of St. Ed’s, in many ways made me the priest I am today.
I am looking forward to re-connecting with old friends and long-time members and connecting with all the parishioners I haven’t yet met. I am very excited to be coming back to St. Ed’s!
Please pray for me, Fr. Brian, the staff, the lay leadership, and for all of us as we prepare for this exciting new chapter.
God bless you – and see you soon!
Fr. Rick Banker
