I am honored to be joining the St. Edward’s community on August 17th as your new Director of Music. Music has always been a significant part of my life ever since my first piano lesson when I was five years old. By the time I started kindergarten, my family moved from Bloomington to Hastings, where I grew up attending St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School. As I progressed through my school years, I picked up some other instruments along the way. These included the clarinet, saxophone, flute, and even playing percussion with the Minnesota Youth Symphony Orchestras for six years. At the same time, I remember my introduction to music ministry, where I began by singing in the children’s choir and at school Masses. Once I started playing the piano and other instruments at Mass during my middle school years, I knew even then I would be following this path in music ministry for many years to come.
When it came time for my freshman year of high school, I decided to join the first-ever freshman class for instrumental music at the St. Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists. Having four years of real-world artistic training alongside my academic studies, plus four years as a full-time accompanist for Masses at several different churches in the twin cities, gave me the skills, experience, and drive to continue pursuing my passion for music. After graduating high school, I moved to Ithaca, NY to study music and business at Ithaca College. My time there offered several unique opportunities outside of classes, including my role as the Director of Music for the Cornell University Catholic Community. After graduating from Ithaca College in 2014, I decided to spend a few months pursuing my other great passion for travel before finally moving back home to Minnesota in 2015.
Over the last five years, I have had many wonderful opportunities to continue developing my skills in music and liturgy including the joy of serving four years as the Director of Music at the Church of St. Rita in Cottage Grove. Currently, I have been serving as the Director of Music & Liturgy at St. John the Baptist in Savage since September 2019.
Even in these most challenging times, I am very excited to for this new opportunity to continue building upon the incredible foundation of the music ministry at St. Edward’s and creating beautiful music together for many years to come!
