On Holy Saturday, the Community gathers in darkness and the new fire is blessed. As the people of God stand with lighted candles, the Easter Candle is incensed and the “Exsultet” (the Easter Proclamation) is sung. We then listen to the ancient stories of our salvation and bless the waters of creation and baptismal new life. With the singing of the sacred chant “Veni Sancte Spiritus” (Come Holy Spirit) we celebrate the initiation of new members into our Church through the “laying on of hands” and the anointing with oil in the Sacrament of Confirmation. We end with a celebration of Easter Eucharist and the transforming joy and hope that the promise of Resurrection brings.
