Father Mike Tegeder Fund

About the Fund

As Christians, we are called by the Gospel to love one another and to help those in need. The late Father Mike Tegeder, one of St. Edward’s previous pastors, inspired many people by living this calling with many acts of kindness and outreach throughout his lifetime. The Fund is so named to honor Father Tegeder’s legacy, and seeks to fulfill our calling to love those in need and make an impact in our community.

By supporting non-profit organizations, The Tegeder Fund will utilize a grant request process in assessing larger projects, enabling many more people to be the hands of feet of Jesus.

Helping Non-Profits

Non-profit organizations can submit grant requests for projects through the grant request process. This process involves a short form that gives the organization a chance to describe how the funds will be used and to provide basic organizational and legal information. Grant requests are forwarded to the Tegeder Committee for review. The committee reviews and approves Tegeder Fund community outreach grants on a quarterly basis.

Get Involved

Parishioners can participate in a variety of ways:

Volunteer to join the Tegeder Committee
The Tegeder Committee reports to the Social Justice Commission and is composed of five to seven volunteer parish community members. Committee members serve on a rotating basis.

Recruit organizations to apply for a Tegeder Fund grant
This can be as easy as telling a friend or neighbor who works or volunteers for a non-profit organization in the metro area.

Donate to the Tegeder Fund
The Tegeder Fund is a combination of voluntary donations from individual parishioners giving above their regular commitment to the parish plus five percent of larger unrestricted bequest funds. Individual donations can be made by writing a check to the Church of St. Edward. Make sure to write “Tegeder Fund Donation” on the memo line. Checks can be dropped in the offertory basket at Mass, placed in the dropbox located in the chapel foyer, or brought to the church office. The Tegeder Committee

The purpose of the Tegeder Committee is to carefully vet grant requests based on:

  • Annual area of focus as guided by the parish
  • Alignment of organization purpose
  • Due diligence on each application

The Tegeder Committee will meet quarterly to approve and prioritize outreach grants based on funds available. After each granting session, the committee will publish the grant recipients along with the amount and purpose of the grant.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will the committee award the first round of grants?
The first round of grants will be awarded in the second quarter of 2022.

How is The Tegeder Fund different than the Dudley Fund?
The Dudley Fund is emergency relief for individuals. The Tegeder Fund is for non-profit organizations in our community.

Why doesn’t St. Edward fund this out of our operating budget?
Our current operating budget is not adequate to fund the Tegeder Fund. Although we ask for donations for various projects, we believe this fund serves a different purpose. In addition to their regular stewardship pledge, it is our hope that parishioners will appreciate the opportunity to use a vehicle like this to leverage their impact.
